Topic of the Month – October 2020

Posted on: September 30, 2020

This month’s topic is Vision, very fitting for the year named 2020 (also named Dumpster Fire, Annus Horribilis and ‘Has anyone tried switching it off and then on again?), none of which are planned as future topics). Vision here consists of some vision, references to sight, and quite a few television cartoons.

Every month this website will feature a dozen to twenty Horacek cartoons on a chosen topic. I choose the topics alphabetically. All cartoons are ©Judy Horacek. I’d rather you didn’t use these cartoons without my permission, but if you must, I’d appreciate it if you acknowledge my authorship and the source.  They are cartoons, not memes! But you’re very welcome to tweet the link to this page. Cartoons this month were first published in The Age and Overland, Women’s Power Handbook (by Joan Kirner and Moira Rayner), Mary Jane (by Sancia Robinson), Meanjin, the Australian Magazine, the Canberra Times and Sheilas (VWT). They have all been re-published in various Horacek cartoon collections.

Glad you enjoyed them Alena, thanks for letting me know. Glad you are a human (robots probably never need glasses). You take care of yourself too.

ALWAYS love your work. Makes me laugh and smile and giggle. Today’s fav’ are the Unrequited Love of scenic binoculars, and the epiphany of the Fine Line. Enjoyed all the details with ants in the Wordless Cartoonist Meltdown one too.

Hang in there. More daffodils, tulips soon. Take care of yourself and those you adore.

Great to have a chuckle. Thank you for helping to lift spirits. Really relate to the lady with the glasses-seeing what you might not want to see. Prefer the impressionistic look of no glasses.

Glad you laughed. I don’t mind the fuzziness until I have to read something, then it’s very frustrating.

For a “shy” and nearly retiring lady, you sure put lots of yourself into your work. How about retiring at 123?

Tandberg once had a beaut cartoon about your robot check: What’s 9×6? Errr … We’re 9 goals down. Geez that’s 54 points. Boom, boom.

Inspirational as always Judy. And the topic of course close to my heart. So a repeated thank you to both you and Mem for supporting the wool sheep book for those without 2020 vision. Hope you noticed I snuck the green sheep in as a felt sheep. Thanks again, Claire

Yes, definitely a topic of interest for you. Hope the braille touch version is a great success. The green sheep as the felt sheep is lovely – makes me think of heartfelt and that’s perfect.

It’s perfect, Judy. It’s Green Sheep for grown-ups! (Now I can read these to my 19 year old son ?).
