Topic of the Month – March 2020

Posted on: February 29, 2020

This month’s topic is Riddles. It’s a smaller topic than usual, because the recent Ornithology topic sucked up a lot of my ‘Why did the chicken cross the road?’ cartoons. But luckily not all of them – here’s a riddle ‘Why does the cartoonist do so many chicken crossing the road cartoons?’

The next topic will be in April 2020 and will be ‘Seasons’.

Every month this website will feature a dozen to twenty Horacek cartoons on a chosen topic. I choose the topics alphabetically. All cartoons are ©Judy Horacek. I’d rather you didn’t use these cartoons without my permission, but if you must, I’d appreciate it if you acknowledge my authorship and the source.  They are cartoons, not memes! Cartoons this month were first published in The Age, The Australian Weekend Magazine, the Canberra Times weekend supplement, and my cartoon collection Unrequited Love. The others have all appeared subsequently in various cartoon collections.

Brought to mind your war cartoon – ‘what does it matter to widows & orphans?’

    All-time Faves still …
    • Holiday for one – friend sent the postcard in the 90s
    • Hills Hoist alive with Sound of Music – laminated from the Weekend Mag
    Dragon-killing Princess
OK vs S Logo – first saw in Random Life

    • judy horacek , says:

Ah yes, dear OK man. Nice to hear your favourites – thanks for following my work for such a long time!

  2. Lisa Booth , says:

Q: How many social workers (or counsellors) does it take to change a light globe?
A: Only one, but the light globe really has to WANT to change.

Thanks for the laughs, especially the climate change – if we couldn’t laugh we’d have to cry.

    • judy horacek , says:

I love the social workers light globe gag. Definitely agree re laugh so as not to cry.

  3. Henry Porter , says:

    Hi Judy,
Thanks once more & hope you’re doing well as the Comedy Festival gig approaches (sure you’ll be awesome). I’m also really looking forward to next week’s Women Cartoonists International Awards.

    • judy horacek , says:

Thanks Henry. I appreciate the vote of confidence.

  4. Alena , says:

    Hi Judy

Laughed at all of them ~ some more than others; the green salad: make life simple and have a laugh.

    • judy horacek , says:

      Nice motto Alena!

  5. Bea Horacek , says:

Loved the green salad……it’s missing because we keep eating it!

    • judy horacek , says:

Lucky it is good for us!

  6. Nancy , says:

    Thank you, Judy~
I laughed so hard I cried! LOVED all of them~

  7. Ro Bailey , says:

My favourite riddle follows, a bit of a variation on chicken riddles –

    Q. What’s the difference between a chicken?

    A. One of its legs is both the same.

    Hope you like it Judy.

  8. Daan Spijer , says:

I particularly like the missing/lost green salad. I’m sure my 6-y-o grandson will like it as well.
