Topic of the Month – December 2019

Posted on: December 1, 2019

This month’s topic is Philosophy, mostly in a very broad sense of an already very broad word, but it does also include some famous philosophical names. Best of luck discovering the meaning of life.

As usual there will be no January topic. The next topic will be in February 2020 (2020!) and will be ‘Queens and other courtly folk’.

Every month this website will feature twenty or so Horacek cartoons on a chosen topic. I choose the topics alphabetically. All cartoons are ©Judy Horacek. I’d rather you didn’t use these cartoons without my permission, but if you must, I’d appreciate it if you acknowledge my authorship and the source.  They are cartoons, not memes! Cartoons this month were first published in The Age, The Australian Weekend Magazine, the Canberra Times weekend supplement,Australian Society and Australian Left Review, And some were first published in various cartoon collections, in the absence of any other outlet.

Thank you for your wonderful book, I sent one each to my sister’s for their respective birthdays – one sister unwisely unwrapped and began reading outside the Post Office in Nambour and started to attract unwanted. She had to discipline herself and put it in the back seat of the car…
Evidently the other sister can’t put it down. Two birds with one book!?!
    Welcome back in February

Love the story of your sister reading in the car! Glad they enjoyed the books, and that you did too. Hope 2020 goes well for you all

Your books ‘Now or Never’ arrived today. They are absolutely beautiful. Couldn’t think how to let you know they have arrived to great applause, and more applause for the beautiful cards which came with them, except for sending a comment here. So here is my huge vote of thanks for doing this beautiful book, and also for the enjoyment I have just had reading the above edified ponderings on philosophy (I think pre-menstrual in a post-modern age 3 is my fave, roars of laughter). Hope your Xmas season is peaceful and well and happy. Carolyn B.

Ah, semiotics. That dredges up memories from the far far dark galaxies of my educational history, LOL. I’m more of a Black Forest Cake philosopher these days! Love Love Love the Winter Veggie Wisdoms. Great way to wake up to December in the frosty and cold Pacific Northwest. Great job on your exhibitions! I really like your linocut for the Printportfolio show! Well done. Love seeing you recognized for the wondrous artist (and business woman) that you are. Happy Holiday Season to you and yours.
