Topic of the Month – December 2017

Posted on: November 30, 2017

This month’s topic is ‘Victory’.  It seemed like a nice way to follow last month’s ‘Uncertainty’.  And then hey, the Marriage Equality Survey in Australia resulted in a resounding Yes, so it’s perfect in that sense (although there are no same sex marriage cartoons in this lot, the result is gloating enough).  The cartoons here aren’t necessarily unequivocal victories – some lateral thinking may be required – and in a number the fight is going on (feminism anyone?) but that reflects life as it happens.

There will be no topic in January.  The next topic will be February 2018, and it will start with ‘W’.

Every month this website will feature twenty or so Horacek cartoons on a chosen topic. I chose them alphabetically. All cartoons are ©Judy Horacek. I’d rather you didn’t use these cartoons without my permission, but if you must, I’d appreciate it if you acknowledge my authorship and the source.  They are cartoons, not memes! Cartoons this month were first published in The Age, The Australian, Overland Magazine, Art Monthly and my very first cartoon book, Life on the Edge.

As usual Judy an amazing collection of cartoons that really made me laugh. I loved the Women’s Football as they imagine the ball is Patriarchy and kick the crap out of it. Some times at school when i am playing T-ball with the little kids, i draw a smiley face on the ball and tell the kids to imagine their worst enemy. Most chose their brothers or a teacher, one of my little girls who suffers Diabetes, imagined that the ball was Diabetes before she smacked it.

That’s a lovely story Ian. Perhaps I was channelling you when I drew the cartoon 🙂

I would like to use your rooster cartoon crossing the road because it absolutely sums up gender balance and to lighten the moment during Family Violence response training here at Mercy Health Werribee. Of course I will attribute full credit of your authorship . How much will it cost to use the cartoon?
    Regards

    Heather

Hi Heather, very happy for you to use the cartoon, I love my cartoons being useful. If it’s simply in presentations, you can do that for nothing, as long as you acknowledge me as you said. Can you email me at info@horacek.com.au and let me know the details. Look forward to hearing from you.

I just LOVE Mildred! Especially. But I also particularly enjoyed the Big Brain, Patriarchy being a football, playing like a girl being Awesome, and all those girls diving into public life (with the horrific media boss only wanting comment on their clothes).

As always, Judy, a thousand thanks.

Thanks Susan, glad you enjoyed them. Yes, that media boss – if only he was a one-off. Hope you enjoy your purchases from the Horacek shop when they arrive.

Love them all, as usual Judy but my favourite is Mildred. Reminds me of a very competitive friend! Enjoy your January break and I’ll look forward to Feb.

Thanks Jan. I’ve been doing cartoons about Mildred for a while now, she’s become a great character. I’m never quite sure what she is going to suggest next.
