Topic of the Month – August 2018

Posted on: July 30, 2018

This month’s Topic of the Month is ‘Beverages’, because you can’t beat a good cuppa.

Next month’s topic will be Climate Change.

Every month this website will feature a collection of Horacek cartoons on a chosen topic. I choose them alphabetically. All cartoons are ©Judy Horacek. I’d rather you didn’t use these cartoons without my permission, but if you must, I’d appreciate it if you acknowledge my authorship and the source.  They are cartoons, not memes! Cartoons this month were first published in the newspaper The Age, the Australian Magazine, the Australian’s Review of Books, the Canberra Times and as a postcard.

Judy! I’m just getting around to your August cartoons now after returning from travel, and the giant teacup blew me away since this is actually right along the lines of a giant teacup ‘hot water” interactive exhibit–not with hot water (!) but with the giant cup and teabags– that I have had dreams of creating ever since my bout with breast CA 9 years ago when a friend sent me a tea cozy with the quote, “A woman is like a tea bag – you can’t tell how strong she is until you put her in hot water.” One word for this synchronicity–wow!

Are you going to be working for 9 Entertainment? At least this is real entertainment – authentic slices of life, manners, beverages and all. Thank you for them.

The inequality cartoon – the woman on the left with her pinky held just right. With her manners, she’d be a shoe-in for an afternoon tea invite from my Nana, no worries!

I love these all, but I cannot help but adore the Mildred cuppa. Squeals of excitement over the impending Mildred calendar project!

Love, love, love them all (as usual) but the end to inequality cartoon really resonates with me. I have a January birthday so was often told at Christmas that the gift was my birthday present too! You are so talented and always hit the nail right on the head! Keep up the great work.

I feel for everyone with a birthday in the second half of December and the first half of January. Or now everyone is so busy it probably stretches to the entire month. Thank you very much for your lovely comment, it’s always wonderful to hear that people appreciate the cartoons.
