Topic of Month – September 2016

Posted on: August 31, 2016

This month’s topic is ‘Hybrids’.  It’s probably a rather loose definition of ‘hybrid’ – meaning things that are joined with other things to make something different.  ‘Hybridisation’ (if that is a word) is something a lot of us cartoonists do all the time – because we can.  There are some well-known traditional hybrids here, such as mermaids, others are a bit less usual.  Quite a few of my history of art ones have ended up here too.

Next month’s TOTM will be ‘Ignorance’.

Every month this website will feature ten to twenty Horacek cartoons on a chosen topic. I chose them alphabetically – next month’s topic will be something starting with I.  All cartoons are ©Judy Horacek. I’d rather you didn’t use these cartoons without my permission, but if you must, I’d appreciate it if you acknowledge my authorship and the source.  They are cartoons, not memes.  Cartoons this month were first published in The Age, The Canberra Times, The Australian Magazine, and some of my cartoon collections.

loved the penguins – am in South Africa on a trek and went down the ocean road to the Cape of Good Hope. On the way back saw two large penguins like yours strolling together up a side street like an old married couple. Will look now for a leopard changing its spots. -thanks for the laughs as usual dear Judyj

Thanks Jan. You’ve got a couple more hours of August – sorry to alarm you prematurely (but indeed, how did we get to this end of the year so fast?)

Wonderful, love the juxtapositions, otherwise known as hybridities – if there is such a word.

Thanks Elisabeth. Probably there will be a word ‘juxtapositionalities’ soon.
