Flying Fruit Fly Circus

In non-pandemic times, right now we’d all be getting tickets to the fabulous cartoon-inspired production Girls with Altitude by the Flying Fruit Fly Circus.

The artistic director Anni Davey got in touch with me a while ago now, and asked if I’d like to work with the Fruities to devise a girls only show using my cartoons – umm…YES! We began working together at the end of 2020, me going up to Albury to work with them, doing things like projecting the cartoons on bodies, and seeing what ideas different cartoons provoked. The girls are incredibly talented, and brave, strong and clever. At this point, my ‘Next Step’ cartoon has particularly interested Anni, you can see one result in the video.

The good news is that Girls with Altitude will be going ahead, and I’ll be working on it again in Albury next year, further teasing out the possibilities of cartoons and live performance with Anni and with animator and artist Bernadette Trench-Tiedemann, and just hanging out enthralled by the amazing things the girls can do.

Lot’s of creative fun exploring ideas for a new work in development. This is how our shows begin…
