NAIDOC Week 2019

Posted on: July 12, 2019

We’re currently in NAIDOC Week 2019 – National Aboriginal and Islander Day of Celebration. The theme for this year is ‘Voice. Treaty. Truth’. It’s an important time for all of us, indigenous and non-indigenous to celebrate, commemorate and think about ways forward.

Lots of people are doing amazing work, but here’s a special shout out to the Indigenous Literacy Foundation and all their work trying to close the literacy gap between indigenous and non-indigenous children.

Where is the Green Sheep by Mem Fox and me has been used in a number of their campaigns, and so has my solo book These Are My Hands. Check out the gorgeous photos!

I’m working on the indigenous literacy gap too: trying to learn a few of the indigenous language names for birds & animals & plants & places via RN’s wonderful Word Up program.

That sounds like a great thing to do Henry, acknowledging that it works both ways. 🙂
