Dear Judy, as an adult I have loved your cartoons and now as a grandma my lovelies are so enjoying your books, especially “Where is the Green Sheep” and “These are my Hands”and and “These are my Feet”
“Yellow is my favourite Colour” is often borrowed and re borrowed from the library and we would love to have it in our own library.
Can you tell me if it will ever be reprinted?

Hi Judy, as a young science graduate I moved from my Victorian home to Brisbane for my first “real job”. One if my delightful older workmates had your Dr Jekyll and Mrs Hyde post card on her desk and I just adored it. Sadly I lost contact with her a few years back, and now I’m back in Melbourne. Today I saw some of your tea towels in a lovely Fairfield shop and it made me wonder…. is it available in any format other than just card??
I loved your comments about the ned Kelly sheep! My whole house enjoy your work. Thank you.

Dr Jekyll and Mrs Hyde has never been done as anything other than a card – I don’t know why, maybe it’s time we thought about it. I’ll ask Alperstein Designs (the makers and distributors of the merchandise, apart from the cards). Glad you enjoy the work so much, thanks for letting me know.

Is your work under copyright? i cannot find anything under the privacy statment or copyright. I would like to use some of the swimming diving cartoons in a sustainability workshop for teachers and students.

Hi Belinda, Yes my work is under copyright (it’s how I make my living). There isn’t a legal requirement to have a copyright statement to have copyright, but I probably should put more of an emphasis on it (there is a copyright statement somewhere on the website). For use of the work, you need to contact my agent, Jenny Darling, her details are under Contacts in the last item on menu bar, email adminATjd-associates.com.au

    Hi Judy
Thank you for all your amazing work!
Some years ago I remember seeing a cartoon you did about grief and a beautiful garden….I wonder if you could point me in the right direction to find it again…I’m a palliative care doctor and it captured beautifully the ‘healing’ that comes with loss.
    Kindest regards Susan

HI Susan, that ‘cartoon story’ is in my collection Woman with Altitude. Let me know if you have trouble finding it. Co-incidentally I am in the initial stages of making a book about grieving, which will include, among other work, that cartoon series and the Deep Sea Divas one (also in Woman with Altitude) that has the same movement from deep despair to a happier ending. Whereabouts are you located – perhaps I could talk to you about some ideas?

    Dear Judy
Many years ago I saw a ‘woman with altitude’ card taped to the door of my favourite university lecturer. This lecturer was a wonderful inspiration to me and I loved your card as it really summed her up. Years later I bought three of your ‘woman with altitude’ prints, one for my best friend, one for my god daughter, and one for myself. I managed to get the gifts framed and delivered but managed to lose my own copy! I have looked for years but have not found it, so I was thrilled that I could find another print on your website.
And now my children love reading your story books, most recently skinny Doug is a hit.
Your work is a part of our own family story.
    Kind regards
    Angela

    Dear Judy

    My name is Pamela Cohen.

I teach English in NSW Australia.

My class are currently studying the picture book DUST that you collaborated on in 2007.

Students have to develop a visual analysis of the images in the text then associate the construction of the images with their meaning.

I am in need of the medium used to allow them to interpret how medium allows the artist to express or synthesise meaning into the work.

Would you be able to provide me with any information about the medium used?

    Many thanks

      Hi Pamela.

It was a drawing in pen, which was then photocopied onto watercolour paper, and coloured with watercolours.

      Hope this helps.

The Ned Kelly sheep is carrying flowers because I didn’t want him to carry a gun. He’s the gentle peace-loving Ned Kelly sheep. Also it was another chance to put colours together as they are throughout the book (stripes on the towel, books on the shelf etc) if anyone wanted to use the book to learn colours.

Very glad you love the books. Not long now till Mem and my new creation is released, Good Night Sleep Tight (in shops October 1)

I really like the cartoons of this month – International Women’s Day/Month, especially numbers 1, 8, 9, 10, 11 and the last one, tying in those so important environmental issues. I’ve been visiting your site monthly for the last 2 or 3 years and told others about it here in New Brunswick, Canada. This has been the best month I’ve seen. Keep up the great work. – Sylvia

I just want to congratulate on the fbulous set of cartoons in this months’s Xhibition theme. When I read the theme I thought it would be a hard one to do but I was blown away by the brilliance of each one. Thank you for your wonderful work.

PS It’s not really worthy of your brag book but I featured your magnets on a blogpost (about rearranging my fridge magnets.) and people admired them in the comments. http://stompergirl.blogspot.com/2009/08/family-fridge-gets-make-over.html

Sorry about the woeful state earlier of the August Topic of the Month, when the cartoons couldn’t be seen. They could be seen on my computer, and on two others I checked, but the fact remains that I uploaded the cartoons in the wrong format so that lots of people couldn’t see them. I’m touched by how many people noticed!!

Apologies for any inconvenience. Wish I could promise that such a technical disaster will never happen again, but obviously that would be a very foolish thing to do.

I’ll probably organise some RSS feeds at some stage – there are still quite a few things being tweaked. But meantime, you can stay up-to-date with any news by subscribing to the monthly Newsletter at the chicken at the top of the page, or if you’re on Facebook, joining Judy Horacek’s Fan Page (yes I do still cringe a bit when I write that, but I can now see its practical side as well). http://www.facebook.com/pages/judy-horacek/129925351232?ref=s

Congrats to all on the glorious, floaty e-universe of horacek. I want to stay all day, but must go and read These are My Hands to 13 month old Alice for the nth time. She picks it up and brings it to us to read. She especially likes the ending and goes “beep beep” on the teddy’s nose.

Beautiful website! Congratulations to you and your website designer. My best Judy Horacek story comes from wearing a shirt with your ‘Take back the night’ cartoon on it many years ago at a B&B in Paris. I was there by myself and knew no one in Paris, but because I was wearing the shirt one morning at breakfast, I was approached by another woman who was there by herself, who recognised the cartoon. Turned out she was from Melbourne too. We ended up hanging out together in Paris and becoming good friends thereafter. Judy Horacek cartoons: bringing people together all over the world since 1992!
