Life on the Edge

Almost nothing is sacred to Judy Horacek, not love, not loss, not postmodernism, only humour. These award-winning cartoons will make you laugh on the way to heaven or the revolution or over the edge.

About

This is my first book, originally published in 1992 by Spinifex with a wonderful foreword by Dale Spender about women and humour.  The second edition came out in 2003 with the same cartoons but a different more watercoloury cover and the addition of an Afterword by me, reflecting on over a decade of cartooning to try to change the world.  As my first book, Life on the Edge contains some classic Horacek cartoons, in their original black and white versions, cartoons done for many different publications, organisations and causes.  Some of them, such as ‘Dr Jekyll and Mrs Hyde’ and ‘Animal Impersonations’  nails their respective issues so well I’m not sure I’ll ever better them.  Aah those crazy days of starting out as a cartoonist, when every issue was lying there just waiting, trembling in fear at the approach of a cartoonist. With all my heart I wish that more of the cartoons in this book had gone out of date, many of them are still as relevant now as they were thirty years ago. Sigh.
