The opposite of e-books

Posted on: March 22, 2010

Here are some photos of the artists’ books I made at the end of last year, that followed on from the work in my Everyday Fairytales exhibition at Helen Maxwell Gallery. I have been wanting to make artists’ books forever, and suddenly the perfect opportunity presented itself – the right imagery, another exhibition opportunity (also at HMG), even the right size paper already cut to a great book size (the leftover strip from cutting paper to size for the first exhibition).

The books are called Fairytales (Red), Fairytales (Blue), Fairytales (Yellow) and Fairytales (Green). You should be able to tell which is which – with the caveat that the yellow book has an orange cover, as I couldn’t get any yellow book cloth. They are only small, 10cm by 10.5 cm, on Magnani paper, and fastened with a silk ribbon. The Australian National Library and the Queensland State Library each bought a set for their collections, which made me very happy!
