Topic of the month – December 2011
November 30, 2011This month’s topic is ‘Up’.
Here is a face of suds I found in a bucket. It was just floating there, I didn’t manipulate it at all. It made me laugh.
This month’s topic is ‘Trees, Plants and Flowers’.
Just launched – a greeting card of my Hysterical Penguins cartoon. One of those cartoons that is funny but also not funny. It should be in bookshops and other places that sell my cards very soon – ask your local! (n.b. I’m always happy to send catalogues to new shops that might want to stock my cards, just let me … more »
Today – 21 September – is International Day of Bibliodiversity, a time to celebrate independent publishing and books of all ilk (and I’m always up for celebrating books!). The day is an initiative of the International Alliance of Independent Publishers, those wonderful and special people who keep us diverse and heteroknowledgeable. Here’s their website for more information, http://www.alliance-editeurs.org/?lang=en I was … more »
The gorgeous little monster Growl now speaks Chinese! I’m terribly impressed at her cleverness, and it’s nice to see that she’s just as cute in Chinese.
For those of you who don’t know the story, Growl is a little monster who loves to growl. And gets into trouble for growling too much and so has to keep quiet. Until she … more »
My cartoon from my fill-in gig on the Age last Friday, 15 July 2011 (click on the orange ‘Carbon tax cartoon’ heading above)
What a lark – I’ve had two days work being an Editorial Cartoonist in The Age, filling in for someone on holidays. (The Age is Melbourne’s daily broadsheet newspaper, for those of you elsewhere). Next week I’m filling in for another holidaying cartoonist, so I’ll be in the paper on Wednesday and Friday. Doing the daily editorial cartoon is … more »
Hilary sent this photo of her two lovely daughters in a bookshop along with this story: ‘Both my girls chose the same book at the shop today. Holly, the five year old, saw Yellow is my favourite Colour and excitedly said, “It’s the Green Sheep lady’s drawing! I love her!”. Then Claudia, the two year old, copied, and grabbed … more »
I love a visual pun! This is the sheepdog belonging to Hilary, Patrick, Holly and Claudia (the same family as in the ‘Green and Yellow Lady’ post). Hilary wrote, ‘This is Norman, our old English sheepdog ‘reading’ Green Sheep. He seems to enjoy books. We read it to him as Where is the green sheepdog?’ Maybe Mem Fox and I should … more »
World Refugee Day is 20 June, which was yesterday, but I didn’t get a chance to put up this cartoon then, so I’m doing it now. There is a petition going round about ending Mandatory Detention, that policy which is so harmful to people’s mental health, leaving them in limbo for years and years, locked up like prisoners. … more »
Today Saturday 11 June is World Wide Knitting in Public Day. I’m not entirely sure what that entails beyond the fact that someone somewhere wants you clicking away in plain view, but it’s a good reason to put some knitting cartoons up on my blog. The last cartoon isn’t really about knitting per se, but it’s got knitting … more »
I was recently sent this photo by Jonathan (click on the image to get the full version or hit ‘more’), who was trying to work from home for the day, but his gorgeous one year old daughter Mabel insisted on having Where is the Green Sheep? read to her over and over again. (Hooray! I can’t tell you how proud … more »
Actually I’ve had this photo for ages, so Miles is more like one and half now. Happy One and a Halfth Birthday Miles! Here’s a fantastic cake that was made for his party – the Near Sheep, one of my personal faves. (Click on the image to get the full version.)
‘Ern Malley’s Cat’, a personage on Twitter, conducted an interview of cartoonists on Twitter – with David Pope, First Dog on the Moon, Jon Kudelka, Eric Lobbecke and me. Here’s the great picture he made of the panel so you can see what we all look like (well okay, not really)
